Abstract
The clinical laboratory data are essential unit of medical informations in the modern health care system. Thus, the data arising from the clinical laboratories should not only be precise and accurate, but also informative and exchangeable. The former could be achieved by various quality control efforts including internal laboratory quality control process and external quality assurance programs. The later, being more important components in present days for setting up the national health care delivery system, might be achieved by comprehensive standardization procedures.
Standardization of the clinical laboratory data delivery system would enhance the "coutilization" of the laboratory data via standardized communication protocol. This include the aspects as ; 1) unification of the name of tests and its unit, 2) standardization of the laboratory methods and the reference values, and 3) standardization of the laboratory tests coding and reporting system. This effort can promote the efficiency of the laboratory information with the aid of laboratory computer networking.
The standardized and unified laboratory data can keep away form the abuse of the laboratory tests and will contribute eventually to the maximum utilization of the laboratory resources. The solutions for standardizing the essential components of the laboratory data delivery system is proposed in this study.
